Committee work until 7:30pm last night on a bill supposed to address diversity in our criminal justice system. However, after hearing witnesses from both sides, I was impressed with the openness and proactive approach of our law enforcement agencies and their eager cooperation with community justice centers, who also seemed satisfied with the progress and the positive direction on the issue. Therefore it seemed to me that the bill's $40,000+ study is spending money on something we are already making good progress on and is needlessly adding to the budget.
