My committee is working on a pre-trial assessment bill which is seeking to deal with the drug problem by getting people the help they need, rather than just throwing them all in jail. We heard an expert explore accurate methods of assessment in drug cases, with the possibility of more productive results in prosecution of those cases. Finding more effective ways to deal with drug users will help people get their lives back on track and will unburden the system.
